What are the school hours?
The morning bell rings at 8:00 am. At this time, you must be seated in your homeroom seat. The afternoon bell rings at 2:30 pm. This is when your last period teacher lets you out of class to pack your backpack.


How many classes are in a normal school day?
There are eight classes in a day including lunch, but ten periods. Two of your classes will have two numbers combined, like 5/6 or 7/8, but they will still only be 50 minutes long like your others.

What are the class times?

Period 1 - 8:00 - 8:55
Period 2 - 8:55 - 9:45
Period 3 - 9:45 - 10:35
Period 4 - 10:35 - 11:05 (A Lunch: 6th grade)
Period 5 - 11:05 - 11:25
Period 6 - 11:25 - 11:55 (B Lunch: 8th grade)
Period 7 - 11:55 - 12:15
Period 8 - 12:15 - 12:45 (C Lunch: 7th grade)
Period 9 - 12:45 - 1:35
Period 10 - 1:35 - 2:30


What are A-days and B- days?
At Cockeysville, we have things called A-days and B-days. Your schedule for art and music depends on the A-day / B-day schedule.  A printable version of the A-day / B-day schedule is posted on the home page of this website. A-days and B-days are also posted on the web page calendar.

What is the schedule on a day when we get out 3 hours early?
On a half day, we normally have 25 minutes of each class.

What happens when there is a delay or closing?
If you suspect there will be a closing or delay, you can go to www.bcps.org, the Baltimore County Public Schools website and you will find the information at the top of the screen. Also, radio and television stations post the closings and delays.
If we need a modified schedule, we will use either a 1-hour late schedule or a 2-hour late schedule.
Where can my parents drop me off in the morning?
If you are not walking to school or riding a bus to school in the morming, then you may be dropped off at school by your parents. The drop off zone is on Greenside Drive. Click HERE to see a photo. Only teachers and busses are allowed to enter the school driveway in the morning.


What is a student agenda book?
Each year students are given an agenda book that contains a calendar in which to record assignments each day. Students are expected to carry their agenda book with them to each class. CMS also includes informational pages about the school in the front of the book.

 


How do the lockers work?

On the first day of school, you'll be given a locker number and combination. The locks are built into the locker, and using your combination, you can open your locker at the beginning of the school day, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day. If you need to visit your locker at other times during the day, you will need a pass from your teacher.

 


How often do we go to the computer labs?

Eighth graders - your teachers will sign up for a lab when you'll need it for projects, etc. 
All students can use the computers in the library before school, during lunch, and after school.

 


How many teachers do we have?

In 6th grade, you'll have 9 teachers: you have five academic teachers you will see every day, one phys ed teacher you will see every day, and two special area teachers (art and music) you will see every other day. You will have a tech ed teacher on a rotating basis.

In 7th grade, you'll have 8 teachers: you have five academic teachers you will see every day, one phys ed teacher you will see every day and two special area teachers (art and music) you will see every other day.

In 8th grade, you'll have 8 teachers: you have five academic teachers you will see every day, one phys ed teacher you will see every day and two special area teachers (art and music) you will see every other day.

 


How many students are in a regular class?

It depends on the classes, but normally there are about 20-30 students in each class.

 


What specials are there?

In a normal school day, there are two specials. 
In 6th grade, the specials are Technology Education, Art, Phys. Ed./Health, and Music. 
In 7th grade, the specials are Art, Phys. Ed./Health, and Music. 
In 8th grade, the specials are Art, Phys. Ed. /Health, and Music.

 


How do I qualify for Honor Roll?
The basis for eligibility will be letter grades, "A"s and "B"s with a maximum of one "C". 
That "C", however, must be balanced by at least one "A".
One or more "D" or "E" will automatically exclude a student from the honor roll for that quarter.

Character traits or citizenship will not be a consideration for eligibility.
Eligibility is based entirely on academic achievement.
