Math Pathways from MS to HS

When looking at the math pathway through middle school, it may help to see the long term goal through the high school courses.

On this page you will see a listing of the middle school pathways and what they lead into for high school.

If you have any further questions, please contact your child's math teacher or the math department chair.

All students must have four credits of math in high school. Credits earned in middle school count towards the overall total of credits needed to graduate, but they do not replace the four math credits needed.

Special Note about Algebra: All students who are enrolled in Algebra will take the Algebra HSA (PARCC). Passing the Algebra PARCC is a graducation requirement. The passing score for Algebra PARCC is set by the state. According to the state website on graduation requirements, the passing score for the Algebra PARCC is as follows:

2016-17 score of 725
2017-18 score of 733
2018-19 score of 741
2019-20+ score of 750

Standard Path in Middle School

Grade 6 – Math 6
Cockeysville Middle School also offers a Math 6 With Assisstance class that provides time to work on skills.
Grade 7 – PreAlgebra 7
Cockeysville Middle School also offers a PreAlgebra 7 With Assisstance class that follows the same curriculum as the PreAlgebra 7 class, but provides more direct instruction time in the classroom.
Grade 8 – Math 8

Honors Path in Middle School

Grade 6 – Math 6
Grade 7 – PreAlgebra

The honors path in middle school leads to the following path options for high school.

Grade 09 – Geometry
Grade 10 – Algebra II
Grade 11 – Trig with Algebra
Grade 12 – Advanced Algebra / Pre-College Math


Option 2

Grade 09 – Geometry or Honors Geometry
Grade 10 – Honors Algebra II
Grade 11 – Trig with Algebra
Grade 12 – Advanced Algebra / Pre-College Math


Option 3

Grade 09 – Honors Geometry
Grade 10 – Honors Algebra II
