National Junior Honor Society

About Us

The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in official Honor Society activities. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

We volunteered at the Race for the Cure. We arrived bright and early to set up the station. At the halfway point in the race, we handed out water to the runners and walkers.  We had a great time cheering on the runners and walkers.

On Saturday, October 29 NJHS volunteered at the ASA 5k. Some of us ran and others cheered on the athletes and helped to monitor the race course. It was a lot of fun!

After a year of planning and preparing, we held our first NJHS Operation Christmas Child packing party. It was a lot of fun! Over 300 boxes were packed, which will be sent to children in over 150 countries worldwide. These are kids who wouldn't receive presents otherwise during the holidays, and a box brightens their lives. There was music, pizza, and Mrs. Rose dressed up as Susie Shoebox. Check out pictures on the CMS website.

NJHS decorated a beautiful Maryland themed tree! It is bound to stick out as thousands of people walk through the festival! About 30 members participated in picking out a tree, stringing the lights and garland, creating a topper, hanging the ornaments, and decorating the base. Best of all, everyone did it with a smile on their face! When our tree is sold, the money will go to the Kennedy Krieger Institute to help children who are sick. Not only did we decorate an amazing tree, but we made a difference doing it.
